The Sony M2 Aqua first waterproof smartphone with IP68 rating

Sony recently revealed a new mid-range smartphone to its Xperia line up of devices. The new Sony M2 Aqua is the first waterproof smartphone that has an IP68 rating making it the most water resistant smartphone currently available on the market.

IP68 is the highest IP a gadget can receive. Devices like the Galaxy S5 have an IP rating of 67 which make it a “water and dust resistant device”, with a rating of 68 a device is Able to protect against Immersion up to 1 m and is completely dust resistant.

The M2 also features some impressive specs for being a mid range device with a  4.8-inch qHD display (540 x 960 pixels), a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, an Adreno 305 GPU, runs  Android 4.4.2 KitKat and has 1GB of RAM. However, it is not a small or light device measuring 40 x 72 x 8.6 mm height and weighs 149 grams.

 

The device will become available in Latina america, Asia Pacific and Europe this Autumn.
