Samsung devices get approved by the U.S. Department of Defense

The U.S. Department of Defense has approved Samsung smartphones running its own enterprise security solution called Knox, giving them an official U.S military’s certification for meeting more then 100 requirements, including better encryption and intrusion detection.

The approved devices are the following: Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Galaxy Note 10 (yes, the Galaxy S5 is not included).

Previously Knox was already approved by the government, but it hadn’t been tested running Android Kit Kat 4.4. These devices are allowed to be used by Pentagon employees but must run Samsung’s Knox, all though the service is only being used by 2% of all devices that that have support for this service it does improve security as all of the data on the device is encrypted using AES encryption and gives general security enhancements.
