New streaming service Shomi to compete with Netflix in Canada

Two of Canadian biggest internet Providers, Rogers and Shaw are creating a Netflix competitor which will soon launch in Canada. The service which is called Shomi will become available this November for $8.99 a month.

The service will give users access to TV shows with apps for tablets, phones, web, Xbox gaming console and set-top boxes at launch (Expect the app to soon appear on the Chromecast streaming device, Roku TV and Amazon Fire TV).

One of the most important thing is the amount of content that streaming service Shomi offers with more then 11.000 hours of TV shows available (more then 340 series), Some of the most popular shows they will be streaming are Modern Family, Shameless, 24: Live Another Day, Vikings, The Simpsons, American Horror Story and Sons of Anarchy, all though the service seems to be mainly focused on TV shows, it will also offer more then 1,200 movies. A total of 30% of all the content that will become available on the service is Canadian.

Some features that are exclusive to Shomi are the Trailer’s the service offers and factoids for movie titles which allows you to see relevant information about a tv show, actor or a set used in a show or movie. You will be able to use one account on up to 6 devices at the same time
