Apple planning on launching iTunes on Android after sales are down 13%

In 2001 Apple launched its media player iTunes which has since then become worlds most used media player and responsible for more then 7.6% of Apple’s revenue, but in 2014 for the first time ever iTunes Album sales have dropped by more then 13% and track sales are down 11% compared to last year (source: Nielsen). According to a new report from Billboard three people “familiar with the talks” say Apple is looking into releasing iTunes on Android as industry executives believe that one of the main reasons iTunes sales have decreased is because of the growth of Android.

Another reason Apple is looking into expanding the iTunes-suite to other platforms is to keep record labels satisfied and all though sales of iTunes have deteriorated the revenue of the service has kept growing, record labels have lost faith in the iTunes revenue model and are now looking more into music streaming services like Spotify, Pandora and iTunes Radio.
