Apple’s A8 CPU will continue to have an external LTE modem

Industry sources have confirmed to Fudzilla that the upcoming CPU that will be featured in Apple’s next flagship smartphone the iPhone 6 won’t have an integrated LTE modem instead the LTE modem will remain separate on a dedicated chip.

Currently only Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC come with integrated LTE modem. So my iPhone 6 won’t have LTE? No you don’t have to worry about your upcoming iPhone not having it as Qualcomm will be manufacturing the dedicated chip that will allow the iPhone 6 to have LTE.

So why won’t  Apple integrate LTE into its processor? Well, Apple wants to focus on development of 64-bit architecture and improving graphics performance as the A8 will have to compete with the NVIDIA Tegra K1 and the Adreno 420. The iPhone 6 is expected to be revealed later this year at WWDC taking place June 9, 2014
