Tech Showdown: Comparing the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 Plus

The Galaxy Note 8 is Android’s latest technological release, arriving shortly after the release of the popular Galaxy S8 Plus. Technology enthusiasts must now make the decision between the latest Note 8 and the S8 Plus. This guide will help you compare both Android devices.

Screen Size

The Galaxy Note 8 does come with a slightly larger screen than the Galaxy S8+, but the Note 8’s 6.3-inch screen size represents only a 0.1-inch difference. The Note 8 also has the largest screen of the entire Android smartphone line. While both screens are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, the Note 8 is more secure with a scratch-resistant glass. The Note 8 is also larger in terms of device thickness, width, and weight.

The larger-screened Note 8 also comes with an additional App Pair feature that enables the user to use two apps side by side. Otherwise, the layouts of the two are fairly similar as each has a curvy design and a screen that takes up the majority of the phone.

Battery Life

While the Note 8 has a slight edge in size, the Galaxy S8 Plus gets a boost in battery capacity. It has a 3500mAh battery, while the Note 8 comes with a 3300mAh battery. This translates to a maximum of 24 hours of talk time on the Galaxy S8 Plus and up to 22 hours of talk time on the Note 8.

Specs

The core specs of the two tech devices are the same. Both the Galaxy S8 Plus and the Note 8 operate on a Nougat Android operating system with the same sim size and network availability. Both phones operate on a Snapdragon 835 processor. The specs of the Galaxy S8 Plus are mostly similar to the Note 8, but it does provide users with a lightweight smartphone and a larger battery life. Both devices have Octa-Core performance and 64 GB of storage space.

RAM

The Note 8 comes with slightly more RAM than the S8 Plus, which features 6GB in comparison to the 4GB of the S8 Plus. Storage ability is otherwise the same with both the Note 8 and S8 Plus featuring 64GB in storage and up to 256 GB of expandable storage.

Sensors

Considering that both the S8 and the Note 8 are Android devices, the layout of included sensors are fairly similar. The rear fingerprint sensor is the same on both devices. Other sensors that are available on both devices include the light sensor, proximity sensor, and compass feature.

Camera

The Note 8 is equipped with the same camera as the S8 Plus, but it also comes with a secondary camera lens. This second lens has improved photography capability with 12 megapixels, lossless zooming, and a variety of field effects.  It also allows users to take two images at once, with both wide-angle and close-up shots.

The S8 Plus has the additional feature of a screen flash, while the Note 8 does not. Both devices feature a Live Focus addition that enhances photo quality. While the Note 8 and S8 Plus continue to battle for the number one camera spot in the Android line, both devices are a good choice for those who value a high-quality camera.

Features

Features are just as important in a cell phone as the specs and layout of the device itself. Galaxy Note followers enjoy the convenience of the S Pen. While this feature might not be a necessity for every tech user, it does enable the user to hand-write notes. Note 8 users also no longer have to unlock their phones for quick note-taking, as the Note 8 allows you to create up to 100 pages of notes without ever unlocking the screen.

Otherwise, many of the desired features are the same across both devices, including quick charging ability and an iris scanner feature. Both devices are also water and dust resistant

Android enthusiasts have a big decision to make between the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. While many of the specs and features are similar, there are notable differences between the two. Comparing these differences will help you choose a device that meets your smartphone needs.
