Android 4.3 Features

Well, remember those days where you would forget to switch of your Bluetooth and you would find that your phones charge had been drained? Well, one of the new features in Android 4.3 are Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth Smart) which allows easy access to Android devices without draining the battery. This works well with the new smart fitness and health monitors coming out for Android but also works well with the Android Smart Watch’s which connects to your mobile phone.

It looks like many mobile game developers will be happy with the latest implementation of  OpenGL as now we will have better rendering of graphics, which as Google showed on stage looks awesome.

Another feature which will be implemented into Android 4.3 is the “Restricted Profiles”. Android’s developers must have been wary of children accidently spending thousands on in-app purchases on the new Android products like they have don’t with Apple products as this setting now allows parents to block access to the in-app purchases, but at the same time it also allows to implement some sort of Parental Control for those parents who want to make sure their children are not viewing “indecent” videos or pictures. This makes it possible for parents to have peace of mind whenever they allow children access on their phone or when they buy the children their own mobile.

Here is the full list of features

  • Bluetooth Smart
  • OpenGL ES 3.0 support (for much improved graphics)
  •  Restricted Profiles (an extension of multi-user support on tablets)
  • Background Wi-Fi location (uses Wi-Fi for providing location even when Wi-Fi is switched off)
  • Dial pad autocomplete
  • Google Play Games
  • Faster user-switching
  • Afrikaans, Amharic, Hindi, Swalihi, Zulu support (also Hebrew, Arabic RTL)
  • Easier text input
  • DRM APIs

Android 4.3 is now available for download on the Android website
