How to get rid of Google Plus comments on Youtube

Google‘s recent implementation of Youtube comments has created a lot of chaos among users. The new comment system increases load time, forces users to use their real name and Google Plus account, replies don’t work and instead of creating the quality related discussions Youtube was looking to get implementing Google +, they have only made it worse. Even Youtube Co-Founder Jawed Kamir hates the new comment system. So, how Do you get rid of Google Plus comments on Youtube?

Youtube has always had a “feather beta” a program that will help users with slower Internet connection or outdated browsers to enjoy Youtube’s content, it was mainly build for people using Netbooks.

intended to serve YouTube video watch pages with the lowest latency possible. It achieves this by severely limiting the features available to the viewer and making use of advanced web techniques for reducing the total amount of bytes downloaded by the browser.

But thats not all, Youtube Feather also removes comments, yes, comments. By enabling the Feather beta you will get a basic youtube page that allows you to enjoy just what you like: The video, without having to deal with annoying comments and slow loading pages. Here is how to activate it:

  1. Navigate to Youtube.com/feather_beta
  2. Click the Join the Feather Beta
  3. Enjoy your comment free youtube!

Update: The new version of AdBlock Plus now also allows you to remove the google Plus comment system. Make sure to Install AdBlock Plus and navigate to the Youtube Costumization page

    Thanks for this. Ever since this new comments format, Youtube has slowed done significantly on my computer. Not sure if I just have viruses or what not, but the site ran just fine before the update. Hope Google wakes up soon.

  3. THANK YOU! I was looking to get rid of the festering morass, and with the new comment system the add-on I used on Firefox no longer works.

    No Youtube comments! Wheeee!
